CAHIMS Exam Preparation Course Overview

Course Introduction

Welcome to the CAHIMS Exam Preparation Course. This course and the CAHIMS exam are the result of collaboration between the Life Science Informatics Center at Bellevue College and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Significant content found in the CAHIMS Exam Preparation Course stems from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Creation of this course and the CAHIMS exam was made possible through support from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Funded by National Science Foundation Award Number 1003223.

This course offers an overview of healthcare, health information technology, and health information management systems. The focus is on the role and responsibilities of entry-level health IT specialists in each phase of the health information management systems lifecycle. The curriculum is aligned to the new Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) certification administered by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. This certificate is designed for students who have previous experience in IT or healthcare and it is designed to serve as a pathway into health IT careers.
